I heard a preacher here recently preach on the subject of "Stepping Up To The Plate". With a solid oak Louisville Slugger in hand and a white sheet of paper for home plate, I was very intrigued to what he was going to say. When he introduced his first point I believe he hit a homerun! The first point was to "step up to the plate" in commitment. He went on to preach about being committed to God and to church.

As I continue to pastor in this post-COVID society I have seen so many Christians who were faithful to God and faithful to church just quit on God. They are no longer committed to anything of God, or the church. As I look at society as a whole, I see a whole generation that can't be committed to anything. I have talked to employers who are having trouble getting employees because they cannot rely on them to come to work everyday. Coaches who can't get players to come to practice each day or even make it to the games regularly. So, what seems to be the issue? Many people blame it on COVID others blame it on society and how this generation was raised. But, the true reality is that it's a heart problem.

Our commitment to God should be an overflow of our heart for God. We should be like David and be "a man after God's own heart." The interesting thing is that young people today have different definitions for what commitment is. Some believe commitment is coming to church every Sunday, for some it is coming twice a month, and for others its coming once a month. We are teaching our children to become good losers and giving out awards without even having to win. God never taught us to be good losers, God taught His children to be good winners! Our commitment places a value on our relationship with Christ. It's like a marriage, if a husband and a wife are not committed to one another then their marriage will not last very long. Its unfortunate we are seeing so much divorce in our world today because there is no commitment anymore.

If you are a born again child of God and you have not been committed to God or to your church then I challenge you "step up to the plate." You certainly cannot live a victorious Christian life and not be committed to God or His church. If you are not committed to:

  • Church

  • Reading your Bible

  • Prayer

  • Giving

  • Serving

  • etc....

Then you need to "step up to the plate" and start winning for God again. Consider some verses to study on about commitment:

Psalm 37:5 (KJV) Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

Proverbs 16:3 (KJV) Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.

2 Timothy 4:7 (KJV) I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

My prayer is that God would challenge your heart to be committed again. Start living the victorious Christian life again. God wants you live in victory and not in defeat. We are not losers but we are winners!
